The new Dubai-based low-cost carrier, which last month placed a $4bn order for 53 new Boeing 737 aircraft, is building up its core management team ahead of its planned launch in 2009.
Gile joins the business from the American budget operator Skybus Airlines, where he was president and chief operating officer for four years.
Before that he held various positions at Southwest Airlines over 25 years, including chief pilot and director of flight operations. He has also worked for Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia).
Speaking to MEED at the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK in July, FlyDubai’s chief executive officer Ghaith al-Ghaith said he hoped to have 90 per cent of his core management team in place by the autumn (MEED 16:11:08).
