Gunmen shoot dead Abdelaziz al-Hasadi in Derna

The former prosecutor-general of Libya has been shot dead in the eastern city of Derna, in the latest high-profile assassination in the country.

Abdelaziz al-Hasadi was killed by unknown assailants on 8 February while visiting relatives in the city, according to Justice Minister Salah al-Marghani, AFP news agency reports.

Al-Hasadi was appointed as the country’s first post-Gaddafi prosecutor-general in 2011. He resigned from the post in March 2013.

The assassination follows the killing of the deputy industry minister in central Sirte. Hassan al-Darole was killed on 11 January, and became the first member of the Libya’s transitional government to be assassinated.
