Foster Wheeler wins Aramco work

23 August 2002

The US' Foster Wheeler Corporationhas announced that it has been awarded four project management services contracts by Aramco Overseas Company. The contracts cover two distillate hydrotreaters, to be installed at Yanbu and Riyadh refineries, and power co-generation plants at Berri and other Aramco gas plants.

The hydrotreaters will be installed following the kingdom's plans to improve ambient air quality for Riyadh, Jeddah and Mecca by switching to lower sulphur diesel fuel in 2006. The contract calls for the upgrade of mid-distillates to low-sulphur diesel at the two refineries, with planned initial sulphur content of 500 pmm and eventual sulphur content of 50 pmm in the diesel.

The co-generation plants are to be installed at Aramco gas plants, starting with Berri. All the facilities will provide combustion gas turbine generators with heat recovery steam generators and high-voltage substations, high-voltage transmission lines and cooling towers. Existing systems and utilities, including the distributed control system, will be upgraded.
