US firm to provide steam power equipment

The US’ Foster Wheeler has won two power contracts from Spain’s Tecnicas Reunidas in Saudi Arabia.

The first contract is for the design and supply of two heat recovery steam generators. The second covers the design and supply of two package-type steam generators. Foster Wheeler will install the equipment at Saudi Aramco’s Manifa cogeneration and main substations project in the kingdom.

Tecnicas Reunidas is the engineering, procurement and construction contractor on the project.

The Spanish firm won the $500m contracts ahead of bids from South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries and Italy’s Tecnimont.

The project is part of Saudi Aramco’s 900,000-barrel-a-day (b/d) Manifa oil field development, which will increase the oil company’s production capacity to 12.5 million b/d by 2010.
