Foster wins Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed museum competition

23 December 2007

The UK’s Foster + Partners has won the international design competition for the proposed Sheikh Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi.

The selection follows a seven month two-stage competition that shortlisted four architects including Foster. The other competitors were Norway's Snohetta, Shingeru Ban of Japan and Moriyama & Teshima of Canada.

The museum will pay tribute to the late UAE President and Abu Dhabi Ruler Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan and will be located on Saadiyat island. The island will also be home to a Guggenheim museum, the Louvre Abu Dhabi and a Martime Museum (MEED 15:11:07).
