Four line up for King Fahd dredging work

03 October 2003
Four companies submitted bids on 30 September for the contract to build a second petrochemicals quay at King Fahd industrial port at Jubail. The client on the estimated $60 million-70 million project is the Royal Commission for Jubail & Yanbu (RCJ&Y).

The bidders for the design-and-build contract for quay 2 are Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC), Royal Boskalis Westminster of the Netherlands, Saudi Archirodon Overseas and the local Huta-Sete.

The project scope covers the dredging of about 4 million cubic metres, with the option to dredge an additional 1 million cubic metres, and the construction of a sea wall. Additional works comprise 1.6 kilometres of sheet piling and asphalt and road works.

King Fahd port is designed to handle the export and import of solid and liquefied substances and bulk goods. It can also handle imports of iron ore and exports of bulk sulphur and fertilisers.
