Fourteen bid for Alex hospital refit

Fourteen international companies have applied to prequalify for a project tomodernise, operate and transfer the hospitals of the Alexandria Medical Organisation, a public sector body. The project is being handled by Alexandria for Securities & Development (ASD - MEED 14:4:00).

ASD says the applicants have come from France, the UK, Poland, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Syria. Shortlisted companies are scheduled to be invited at the end of May to bid for the contract to carry out the project.

The contractor will be required to modernise four existing hospitals, which have a total of 600 beds, and operate them for a period before handing them back. ASD says the bidders will also have the optionof presenting proposals for the reconstruction of a fifth hospital, which is no longer in use.

The costs of the modernisation work will be covered by revenues earned through operating the hospitals.
