France signs Terga power contract

France’s Alstom and Algerian state energy company Sonelgaz have signed a $1.98bn contract for the construction of a combined-cycle power plant at Terga, west ofAlgiers.

The deal was signed during French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s visit to the country. Sarkozy led a group of French businesses on a three-day visit which started on 3 December.

A consortium of Alstom and Egypt’s Orascom Construction Industries was low bidder for the 1,200 MW plant in November. Alstom will supply three GT26 gas turbines to the project. The construction period is 45 months.
