Applicants include Al-Hamed Development & Construction, Arabian Construction Com-pany, Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises, Arab Technical Construction Company (Arabtec), Engineering Contracting Companyand Target Engineering Construction Company- all local, and the local/UK Balfour Beatty Abu Dhabi.
The larger of the two packages, estimated to be worth AED 110 million-128 million ($30 million-35 million), will include the construction of a three-storey building, infrastructure development, landscaping and related civil, mechanical and electrical works. Package 2, estimated to be worth AED 18 million ($5 million), will cover the construction of a police headquarters building on the island. The project has a construction period of 22-24 months.
The client, Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (Adma-Opco), is expected to issue a list of prequalifiers for both packages by mid-January. Prequalified contractors will have the option to bid for either of the two packages, as well as submit an overall price.
The project was retendered following changes to the scope of works. The scheme was originally tendered in mid-2001 with a major demolition package in the scope of works (MEED 20:7:01).
