Alocal consortium of Galfar Engineering & Contracting and Bahwan Contracting Company has been awarded a contract to build a village near Sur to house Oman LNG staff. The consortium submitted a bid of about RO 18 million ($46.8 million).
Construction of the village, to take 15 months in total, has already begun. The main features are 135 two-and-a-halfstorey villas, a school, club facilities and a kindergarten (MEED 18:8:00). The consultant is WS Atkins International of the UK.
The development is the first stage of a project to create housing for up to 8,000 families. The client is Qalhat Real Estate Investment Services, the fully-owned subsidiary of the local Al-Sharqiya Investment Holding Company.
