Omani contractor to build terminal building

Oman’s Galfar Engineering has won a RO40m ($105m) contract to build Ras al-Hadd airport.

The contract involves the construction of a runway at the airport. The other bidders were Oman’s Desert Line Projects, India’s Larsen & Toubro, South Korea’s Hanjin Heavy Industries, and Austria’s Strabag.

The state awarded the RO9m civil works contract at Ras al-Hadd to Desert Line Projects in 2008. The contractor was the lowest bidder with a price of $23.2m.

Oman is building four other airports across the sultanate. It is expanding Muscat International airport and Salalah International airport. It is also building a new airport at Duqm, and plans to develop an airport on the Musandam peninsula (MEED 1:11:09).
