Local contractor wins deal to upgrade highway

The local Galfar Engineering & Contracting Company has won a OR11.5m ($29.8m) contract to upgrade the Birkat Al-Mouz to Sayq road in Oman.

The contract involves the construction of safety ramps, concrete safety barriers, additional guard rails, and other features such as reflective road studs and new signs.

The project will also involve stabilising slopes and earth work at certain areas to increase visibility. The estimated duration of the project is nine months.

Galfar saw off competition from local Desert Line Projects, China Harbour Engineering Company, and the Italian-Lebanese joint venture Federici Batco-Stirling to win the contract.

Last week, Galfar was awarded two other contracts in Oman worth $131m. They won a OR40.5m contract from the Transport and Communications Ministry for works at the Ras Al-Hadd Airport, and another contract worth OR10m from the Health Ministry to build an accident and emergency department at Khoula Hospital.
