Gammon goes Greek at International City

Local real estate developer Nakheelhas awarded Gammon & Billimoria, the local affiliate of India's Gammon, the estimated AED 300 million ($82 million) package 7 at International City. The 20-month contract calls for the construction of Greek-themed three-storey residential buildings.
Package 7 is the final contract to be let on the residential portion of International City. Gammon is already working on the Persian-themed buildings as part of package 6. Other companies working on the residential development include Ali Moosa & Sons Contracting, Union Engineering Construction (UNEC), Al-Shafar General Transport & Contracting, Al-Sahel Contracting, all local, and Turkey's Nurol Group(MEED 21:1:05).

Covering an area of 800 hectares, International City will comprise residential apartments, a shopping mall, entertainment facilities, factory outlets, warehousing and related works. Total project costs are estimated at $1,900 million. The scheme, located in the Al-Warsan district, covers six areas: central district, lake district, residential district, forbidden city, dragon mart and Dubai gate.

The local Bin Hafeez General Contracting & Transport Establishmentis carrying out the infrastructure works. The US' DMJM International is the overall masterplanner and architect. The consultant for the infrastructure and residential district packages is Associated Consultants Engineers (ACE) International. Germany's Drees & Sommeris the project manager.
