21 March 2003
The Office of Reconstruction & Humanitarian Assistance (ORHA), the US Defence Department unit set up to run Iraqi reconstruction, has appointed former US ambassador to Yemen Barbara Bodine, 54, to co-ordinate activities in central Iraq, according to the daily Los Angeles Times.

William Eagleton, 77, has been appointed to co-ordinate activities in the northern area of Iraq, most of which is now under the control of the Kurdistan Regional Government. The reconstruction plan calls for him to be based in Kirkuk, the principal oil centre in northern Iraq which is under the control of the Iraqi government. An ORHA spokesman speaking to MEED on 21 March said that he could neither confirm or deny the report.

The ORHA is headed by Jay Garner, a retired US army general who supervised aid to the Kurds in 1991. He reports to head of the US Central Command Tommy Franks.
