US energy firm will provide operations and maintenance for 10 power plants

The US’ GE has signed a power services contract with Algeria’s Sonelgaz to provide services for a number of major power plants across the North African country.

Under the deal, GE will provide long-term operations and maintenance (O&M) for 10 Sonelgaz power plants, which generate a total of 11GW of power. The US energy firm will also deliver an additional 420MW of power by improving fuel efficiency through digital offerings.

The improvement in efficiency is planned to save up to $2bn in gas costs and reduce maintenance costs.

In 2014, Sonelgaz and GE established GE Algeria Turbines (GEAT), a joint venture manufacturing plant that will produce gas and steam turbines for Sonelgaz’s growing power needs.
