The consortium of Germany's Siemens T&Dand Austria's VA Tech T&Dhas been awarded the substation package on phase 5 of the Qatar transmission project. The QR 395 million ($108.5 million) contract is the largest package on the estimated $400 million scheme, which is being handled by Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa - MEED 4:6:04).
About eight international companies submitted bids in early 2004 for the work, which calls for: a 220/66/11-kV substation at Abu Hammour north; a 220/66/11-kV substation known as Doha central; a 132/66/11-kV substation at Maither central; a 132/66/11-kV substation at Duhail; and a 66/11-kV substation at Doha's vegetable market. Kahramaa has already awarded the distribution management system (DMS) package on the project to France's Areva T&D(MEED 21:5:04). The consultant is the UK's PB Power.
