Groups submit bids for second Duqm airport package

21 October 2008
Bids have been submitted by 15 local and international groups for the second construction contract at Duqm International Airport.

The groups are bidding to build the airfield and other infrastructure at the site.

Construction of the new airport at Duqm is expected to begin in 2009 and is set to be completed in 2012.

The first construction package at the airport was won by the local group Desert Line Projects in late September (MEED 30:9:08).

The second construction contract is expected to be awarded in November.

Oman is expanding its transport and industrial infrastructure at Duqm.

The airport project will complement a new drydock and ship-building facility currently under construction in the city (MEED 3:7:08).
