The MEED Projects index tumbled by a further 0.4 per cent to $2.96 trillion in the week ending 19 January as the region continues to feel the effect of the global economic downturn.

Saudi Arabia and Oman lost 1.7 per cent and 1.6 per cent of the value of their portfolio of projects planned or under way respectively.

Only Qatar experienced an increase in the value of its projects, which rose by 0.5 per cent. The index is up by 65.5 per cent on the previous year.
