Specifications could form a template for other markets
UK-based Halcrow has completed the revision of Bahrain’s construction standards for the Works Ministry. The standards, which have been published and are awaiting implementation, are divided into 21 modules that cover all aspects of construction, from concrete and earthworks to shoreline protection.
The specifications have been developed in line with current international standards, and amalgamate all former standards in Bahrain to provide a comprehensive set of construction regulations.
Halcrow says the specification could form the basis for standards in other markets across the region. “We hope this document may also have a regional application in the future,” says David Pocock, project director, Halcrow.
Halcrow will provide support to the works ministry for two years to ensure that the specifications are implemented successfully.
