A consortium of South Korea’s Hanwha Engineering & Construction and Saudi Oger has received a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction contract for power and desalination plants at the planned Ras al-Zour fertiliser complex.

Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) is the client. The companies will sign the $300m, 34-month contract in mid-December.

The stand-alone power plant will have a capacity of 160MW and the desalination plant will produce 30,000 cubic metres a day of water.
