Harweel EOR job awarded

11 November 2005
UAE-based Petrofac International with the local Galfar Engineering & Contractinghas received a letter of award from Petroleum Development Oman (PDO)for the estimated $960 million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract on the Harweel enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project. The Petrofac/Galfar team entered sole negotiations for the job in July (MEED 22:7:05).

The three-year contract covers project management, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, training and support during commissioning on phases 2a and 2b on the Harweel project. The scheme entails installation of an oil and gas processing station, including an enrichment and sweetening plant, capable of processing 10,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d) of oil. It also covers facilities for: 5 million cm/d of gas injection at the Zalzala field; the combat of gas depletion at the Rahab field; and additional gas gathering.

The phase 2 project to boost production at the Harweel cluster to about 100,000 barrels a day, was granted shareholder approval in January. It is one of several major schemes under way by PDO to raise oil and gas output. Petrofac and Galfar were awarded in July the combined front-end engineering and design (FEED) and EPC contract on the Al-Kawther gas gathering project. The EPC contract on the Qarn Alam EOR project is due to be tendered in early 2006 (MEED 5:8:05).
