Position: Communication and information technology minister
Biography: Hessa al-Jaber is communication and information technology minister, the sole female appointee to Sheikh Tamims new cabinet. Al-Jaber is the third woman in the Gulf nations history to join the team.
She has headed Qatars telecommunications regulator ICTQatar since 2004, overseeing the liberalisation of the telecommunications sector. Prior to becoming secretary general of ICTQatar, Al-Jaber was a member of the strategic information and communications technology (ICT) committee, responsible for shaping Qatars national ICT strategy.
She was previously information technology adviser for Ooredoo (formerly Qtel) and chairwoman of the Computer science department at Qatar University. She holds a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Kuwait University and a masters degree and doctorate in computer science from George Washington University in the US.
