Shopping centre is one of the largest retail schemes in Doha

US-based Hill International has been awarded a three-year, QR35m ($9.6m) contract for project management services during the construction of the Mall of Qatar project in Doha.

Mall of Qatar is one of the country’s largest retail projects and, when complete, the 165,000-square-metre centre is expected to serve 20 million customers a year. One of the key architectural features of the development is a three-storey central amphitheatre with a massive domed roof called the Oasis. The mall will also have a hypermarket, five department stores, 20 restaurants and an indoor streetscape.

The mall is located in the Al-Rayyan area and is close to the 45,000-seater Al-Rayyan Fifa 2022 World Cup stadium.

The local UrbaCon Trading & Contracting is the main contractor on the mall. In December last year, Dubai-based Drake & Scull was awarded a deal worth QR400m to carry out mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works. Construction work on the mall is scheduled for completion in late 2015.

UrbaCon is an affiliate of the mall’s developer, the local Al-Khayyat Contracting & Trading.
