US company to equip propylene unit
Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer) has awarded US-based Honeywell a contract to supply equipment for a new petrochemical unit in Ruwais.
Honeywell will provide engineering and design services, technology licensing, catalysts, adsorbents and equipment for a propane dehydrogenation unit at the Ruwais refinery. The unit will produce 500,000 tonnes a year (t/y) of propylene by 2013.
The unit is part of the expansion of the Ruwais refinery that will result in a total refining capacity of 832,000 barrels a day (b/d).
The project will add petrochemicals and specialists products to the refinery, with unleaded gasoline, naphtha, A1 jet fuel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), propylene, kerosene, gas-oil, bunker fuel, diesel, slurry to existing fuel oil and sulphur becoming part of the portfolio.
