Hotel tender awaited on Mall of the Emirates

The release of the hotel package is imminent on the Mall of the Emirates development at Al-Barsha in Dubai. The client, the local Majid al-Futtaim Group of Companies, has drawn up a list of prequalifiers after receiving expressions of interest from contractors.

The 18-month contract centres on the construction of a 400-room hotel, which will be built on a fast-track basis. The facility will be managed by Kempinski Hotels & Resorts. Two major packages have already been awarded on the estimated $800 million development. The local Khansaheb Civil Engineering is carrying out the estimated AED 550 million ($150 million) contract to build the two-storey shopping mall, while the local/UK Al-Naboodah Laing O'Rourkehas the AED 220 million ($60 million) contract to build the snow centre and the west car park. The project manager is the UK's Mace International; the structural engineering consultant is Mott MacDonald, also of the UK (MEED 12:12:03; 10:10:03).
