IAEA chief to visit Libya

16 February 2004
International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei is to visit Libya in the next few days, the agency announced on 16 February. ElBaradei is to spend two days on 23-24 February meeting senior Libyan officials and assessing progress in the dismantling of Libya's nuclear weapons programme.

There has been a thawing of relations between Libya and Britain and the US after Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's announcement in December 2003 that it is to end its nuclear weapons programme (MEED 22:12:03).
