ictQatar to digitise Arabic books

In a recent interview to the New York Times, Dr Hessa Al Jaber, ictQatar General Secretary, stated the communications regulatory authority is starting a project to digitise approximately 18,000 books in Arabic. This is part of an initiative to give Arabic-speaking people more access to the Internet. It was revealed that 65% of Arabs who explore the Internet do not read or write English.
