IDF kills Hamas militant

17 November 2003
The Israel Defense Force (IDF) on 17 November killed a 22-year-old Hamas member in the West Bank town of Tul Karm, reported local media. The man was shot dead after he opened fire on IDF soldiers as they patrolled the refugee camp in the town.

The death came a day after two Palestinians were killed in clashes near the Rafah refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip. The deaths happened when IDF soldiers arrested a local Palestinian resident, Bassem Abu Libdeh, who is suspected of smuggling weapons across the Egyptian border. One man was shot and killed by a helicopter backing up the IDF ground forces, and a second was killed as he tried to flee the area. Libdeh's house was destroyed by the IDF after his detention (MEED 14:10:03).
