Infrastructure II award due

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) is preparing to award in late December the $1,500 million Infrastructure II reconstruction contract, according to director of mission Lewis Lucke. 'Washington has informed us that they expect to make an announcement on the contract before the new year,' he says.

Among the bidders are Parsons Corporation, Bechtel and Washington Groupwith Black & Veatch, all of the US, and a joint venture between the US' Fluor Danieland the UK's Amec. The bulk of the funding will be allocated to the restoration and upgrade of power, water and sanitation infrastructure.

Other areas covered in the contract include transport and design engineering (Iraq, MEED Special Report, 24:10:03, pages 34-38).
