Insurgents kill three US soldiers

Reports of the death of a US soldier in northern Iraq late on 16 February put the number of US troops killed on the same day to three. Earlier, two US military had been killed in separate roadside bomb attacks (MEED 16:2:04).

The third death came when a convoy was attacked by 'an improvised explosive device' near Tall Afar, west of Mosul in the Ninevah province. Another troop was injured in the blast. The Pentagon says that 261 US soldiers have died as a result of attacks from insurgents since the war in Iraq ended on 1 May 2003.
