More than 200 wind turbines are already operating in Iran, says renewables organisation
The Iranian Renewable Energies Organisation (REO) plans to buy 80 wind turbines to operate mainly in the southeastern Sistan Balouchestan province, according to Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
REO sees the provinces of Sistan Balouchestan, East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Qazvin, Semnan and Khorasan as potential locations for an expanding wind power sector in Iran.
According to REOs director for engineering affairs, Iraj Harsini, there are more than 200 wind turbines currently operating in Iran.
In a separate report on Mehr News Agency (MNA), it was revealed that Iran University of Science and Technology has built vertical axis tidal turbines for the very first time in the country.
The offshore tidal turbines produce 5-10 kW of energy. A university spokesman said the offshore tidal turbines are soon to be patented.
