Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh says he doesn’t believe Opec will agree a deal on oil production at a meeting due to take place on 22 June.

“I don’t believe in this meeting we can reach an agreement,” he told reporters ahead of the summit in Vienna.

Iran is against raising the production target, while Saudi Arabia and Russia are expected to push for an increase.

The price of Brent crude has surged by almost 75 per cent since Opec and a group of 11 other oil producers agreed a production cut deal in 2016.

Earlier in June, Saudi Arabia’s oil minister said it was “inevitable” that Opec and its allies would agree to boost oil output gradually, giving a strong signal that Saudi Arabia would push for a production increase that would reduce global oil prices.

Russia is pushing for a dramatic production boost of 1.5 million barrels a day.

Earlier this month Zanganeh said there was “no need” to change the existing production cut deal.
