The Transportation & Telecommunications Ministry on 6 October announced the successful bidders for three regional mobile phone networks. The consortia are:
Northern Region: Asia Cell
Central Region: Orascom Telecom
Southern Region: Atheer Tel
The news was given in a statement from interim Transport & Telecommunications Minister Haider al-Abbadi. 'The service should start in a few weeks, hopefully by the end of the month,' he said. 'The maximum cost per minute will be 10 cents.'(MEED 3:9:03)
