Iraq’s PM boosts reputation ahead of election

Energy deal and cooperation conference enhance Al-Kadhimi’s international image

Over recent weeks, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi has made several announcements that have enhanced his reputation ahead of the elections scheduled for October.

These include brokering a $27bn energy deal with the French company TotalEnergies and hosting the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, which saw several heads of state pledge to support Iraq as it tackles ongoing economic challenges.

The Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership was held on 28 August in Iraq’s capital.

It brought together leaders and senior ministers from nations allied with Iraq and countries with ongoing unresolved political issues with Baghdad. Read more here
