Government plans to build 40-50 power stations by end of 2012
Iraq is implementing an emergency power station construction plan designed to increase production capacity by 4,000-5,000MW by the end of 2012, the MEED Iraq Power & Gas Projects 2011 conference was told this morning.
“We are planning for 4,000-5,000MW to be built in an emergency power station construction plan,” said Ala’a Zamil, head of IPP projects at the Electricity & Water Ministry. “We plan to build 40-50 power stations.”
All these power stations will be operated by heavy fuel oil. These power station should all be operational by April and May 2012,” Zamil said the ministry is aiming for 4,000MW of additional power production by the summer of 2012.
