Iraqi bus blown up

24 September 2003
At least one person was killed and more than 20 injured when a bomb destroyed a bus in Baghdad on 24 September. Witnesses told Reuters that an explosive devise planted at the side of the road detonated when a US military patrol passed by. The explosion missed the convoy and hit two mini buses travelling nearby. The fatality and all of the injured are said to be Iraqis. Police at the scene said the devise appears to be home made.

Baghdad and the so-called 'Sunni triangle' in particular have seen a deterioration in security in the past months. Roadside bombs have become a common means of attacking convoys of soldiers, but have caused numerous civilian deaths.
