Biography: Irfan Said is head of project and structured finance at Saudi Arabia’s Samba Financial Group.
Prior to his current role, Said served as manager of project and structured finance at ANZ Investment Bank. Samba has played a pivotal role in the development of the project finance market through advising and arranging funds for public and private sector entities across various sectors, in particular power and water.
Recent roles include advising Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (Sabic) on raising limited-recourse financing for its $10bn Saudi Kayan petrochemical project.
Samba has established a presence in several other countries, notably the UAE, the UK and Pakistan, where it has replicated its project finance expertise. Recently, it was appointed mandated lead arranger for financings including the Shuweihat 2 IWPP and Dolphin pipeline in the UAE.
