Five Japanese and one French national taken
The UK’s BP has said that six workers had been taken from the Amenas gas field that the company operates in Algeria.
Islamist militants have been blamed for the incident and the hostages include five Japanese and one French national.
The field is close to the Libyan border and is operated by BP, alongside Norway’s Statoil and the state-owned Algerian oil company Sonatrach.
