Sering International to complete feasibility study for Shinas port
Oman’s Transport and Communications Ministry has awarded Italian engineering firm Sering International a consultancy contract to evaluate the feasibility of a port on Oman’s northern Batinah coast.
The ministry will use Sering’s recommendations to decide whether to upgrade the existing Shinas jetty or build an alternative new port in a nearby location.
The contract involves conducting an initial study of the planning, technical, and economic aspects of establishing a commercial port. Sering will also design and master-plan the development of the proposed port, as well as advising the government on its operation and management when construction of the facility is completed.
The Italian firm will also provide an assessment of the opportunities for investment in the area around the proposed port. This will include identifying requirements for establishing storage facilities, industries, commercial activities such as banks, as well as a free trade zone.
