Dubai Municipality has extended the prequalification deadline by two weeks to 19 September for the first phase of the grassroots Jebel Ali sewage treatment plant (STP). Twenty-one civil contractors and 20 international plant firms have been invited to prequalify. The main tender is expected to be issued by the end of the year. Construction is scheduled to take three-four years. The first phase, which will have capacity of 300,000 cubic metres a day, will cost an estimated $150 million-200 million. The consultant is the UK's Montgomery Watson, part of US-based MWH(MEED 5:8:05) .
