09 December 2015

The system will cover metro, bus, light rail, marine, tram and other future transport modes

Saudi Arabia’s Metro Jeddah Company is seeking to prequalify firms to supply an automated fare collection system for all modes of transport covered under its $12bn transport masterplan programme.

The system will be implemented across Jeddah’s metro, bus rapid transit (BRT), light rail, marine transport, tram and other future transport networks.

The main items include an integrated central and back office system, comprising hardware and software solutions ranging from servers, databases, administration software and test facilities, among others. It will also include sales, validation and inspection equipment and contactless media as well as a passive provision for future phases of the transport programme such as introduction of a commuter rail.

Other hardware required includes fare gates, vehicle validators, ticket issuing machine, ticket vending machines, and handheld control devices, among a slew of other related equipment.

Expressions of interest are due by 17 December, with prequalification closing date set for 13 January.
