Overview
South Steel Company is building a greenfield steel plant in Jizan Economic City in Saudi Arabia. Phase 1 of the development was to build a mini-mill comprising a steel plant that will produce 1 million tonnes-a-year (t/y) of steel billets and a connected rolling mill that produces 500,000-t/y of rebar. Phase 2 is to build slab making facilities.
A consortium led by MMC Corporation and Saudi Binladin Group has been awarded a 30-year licence to develop Jizan Economic City on the Red Sea coast. It is about 50km north of Jizan city and spread over an area of 117 square km.
