15 June 2014

Work will involve upgrading turbines and compressors

The joint venture of the Netherlands’ Stork and Qatar’s Oryx Energy Projects & Services has been awarded a contract to upgrade rotating equipment at the Pearl gas-to-liquids (GTL) facility at Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City.

Qatar Shell has awarded Stork Oryx Turbo Machinery Services a seven-year contract to overhaul steam turbines, compressors, pumps and fans from various contractors at the Ras Laffan scheme.

The Pearl GTL plant, developed by the UK/Dutch Shell Group, began production in 2011 and produces a mix of diesel, kerosene, base oil, naphtha and paraffin. The Pearl project was the first integrated GTL operation in the world, with upstream natural gas production integrated with an onshore conversion plant.
