Comprehensive distributed management system sought for 50 substations

  • Jordan invites bids for provision of distributed management system
  • Tender also calls for provision and installation of a data centre and a disaster recovery centre

Jordan’s Electricity Distribution Company (Edco) has invited companies to submit bids for the provision of a comprehensive distributed management system (DMS) to monitor and manage 50 substations across Aqaba, Jordan Valley, Al-Karak, Maan and Tafilah.

In addition to a SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition)-based DMS, the tender calls for the provision and installation of a data centre, a disaster recovery centre, ultra-high frequency (UHF) communication links, and related software applications.

The scope extends to providing required integration with the existing SCADA and other systems within Edco, and to comply with all required tests such as the standard factory and site acceptance tests.

Jordan has been under pressure to introduce reforms across a vast spectrum of its economy, including in the power and water sector. The Washington-based IMF has noted this in its latest review of the Jordanian economy and prior to releasing the latest economic aid to the country, worth close to $400m.

Adopting new technologies such as DMS is understood to be a key step in improving the utility sector’s operational efficiencies.
