Project will cost $10bn to build
Jordanian minister of state for mega projects, Imad Fakhoury has said the kingdom is set to invite companies to register for bidding on a contract to build the Red Sea Project desalination plant next week, Bloomberg has reported. The project will eventually cost $10bn and will address Jordan’s water shortage by extracting around 400 million cubic meters of water a year from the Red Sea, producing about 200 million cubic meters of fresh water after the process of desalination.
