J&P scoops Pearl infrastructure work

Cyprus-based Joannou & Paraskevaides (J&P Overseas) has started work on the estimated QR 1,000 million ($275 million) infrastructure package for the entire Pearl-Qatar development. The contract is expected to take about 30 months to complete. United Development Company (UDC) is the client and developer on the Pearl (MEED 3:3:06).

The scope of works includes internal roads, bridges, telecommunications infrastructure, potable water, sanitary and drainage systems and pumping stations. The US' Parsons International is the infrastructure design consultant.

Bidding is also under way for another major Pearl contract, involving the construction of a central district cooling plant. The plant will have refrigeration capacity of 110,000 tonnes.

The local office of Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners) is the project management consultant (PMC) on the Pearl development.
