Jumeirah Village finally swings into action

16 December 2005

Local property developer Nakheel is pressing ahead with its proposed Jumeirah Village development. The project, which is divided into a northern and southern section, was first launched in September 2004.

Contractors have until 18 December to submit bids for the main infrastructure contract at Jumeirah Village north.

The 18-month contract includes construction of internal roads, telecommunications infrastructure and potable water, sanitary and drainage systems. Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners) is the consultant.

The UK’s Faith & Gould is the project manager. Nakheel is also expected to issue a tender for the infrastructure at Jumeirah Village south by the end of December with the submission date likely to be in mid-January. The project manager is the UK’s Mouchel Parkman.

Located adjacent to Jumeirah Islands off Sheikh Zayed highway, Jumeirah Village calls for the construction of about 7,000 one-four-bedroom villas and townhouses.

The development will be divided into four districts - Gateway Village, Canal Village, Paradise Village and Marina Village - and will incorporate Arabic and Mediterranean architectural styles.
