JV wins Dubai Tower

The UAE/local joint venture of Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprisesand Aljaber Engineeringreceived in mid-July a letter of intent for the main contract on Dubai Tower. The award, valued at about AED 875 million ($240 million), came after final prices were submitted by the three bidders in June for the landmark West Bay tower, which at about 400 metres will be the tallest in Qatar.The client is Dubai International Properties(MEED 11:3:05).

The two other bidders were Lebanon's Arabian Construction Company (ACC)and Athens-based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC).

The 28-month contract will call for the construction of an 80-storey tower on top of a nine-level podium. The mixed-use development will contain a five-star luxury hotel, to be managed by Dubai-based management company Jumeirah, office space and one- and two-bedroom apartments.

UAE-based Middle East Foundationswas awarded in early 2005 the estimated $15 million piling and foundations package. The design consultant is the UK's RMJM International; Hyder Consulting, also of the UK, is the construction consultant. The project manager is the US' Hill International.
