Kahramaa contracts awarded

Qatar General Electricity & Water Company (Kahramaa) has awarded contracts worth more than QR 1,000 million ($274.7 million) aimed at upgrading the state's power and water distribution network.

The largest contract, valued at QR 738.4 million ($202.9 million), went to Saudi Arabia's Riyadh Cables for cable supply over a period of four years. The other awards were related to the water distribution network.

Japan's Torishima Pump was awarded a QR 132.8 million ($36.5 million) contract to install 34 pumping stations to improve water supplies to the Salwa Industrial Area, Bin Hajjar, Old and New Salwa and the area around the airport.

The local Gulf Housing & Construction has won the contract to replace 144 kilometres of pipeline to improve potable water supply to the suburbs of Doha.

The local Boom Construction Company has taken a QR 44.1 million ($12.1 million) contract to replace the main water pipelines serving Doha and Mesaieed Industrial Area.

HBK Contracting, also local, has the QR 99 million ($27.2 million) contract to expand the water networks in Al-Shamal, Al-Kaban, Al-Jaryan and Umm Salal.
