04 October 2017
Project is expected to take 48 months to complete

US-based KBR has been awarded an engineering and project management services contract by JVGAS – a joint venture of Sonatrach, Statoil and BP – according to a statement released by the company.

In the statement, KBR says the contract is for the provision of engineering, procurement and construction management services (EPCM).

The statement gives limited details on the scope of the contract, only revealing that:

“Under the terms of the contract KBR will provide detail design engineering, procurement services as well as construction management at the major gas developments at In Salah Gas and In Amenas.”

KBR says it expects to complete the contract over a period of 48 months.

The In Salah gas joint venture is one of the largest dry gas projects in the country and involves the development of seven gas fields in the southern Sahara, 745 miles south of Algiers.

The first phase of development came on stream in July 2004, developing the largest three fields.

In Salah’s second stage came on line in February 2016, with the intention of maintaining production levels by developing the remaining four fields.

The In Amenas joint venture is one of the largest wet gas projects in Algeria and involves the development and production of natural gas and gas liquids from fields in the Illizi Basin in south eastern Algeria.

First gas was produced at In Amenas in 2006.

A project to install compression facilities at the site and boost production was completed in February 2013.
